#EdTechTeacherChallenge August 2020: Bitmoji Classroom, Day 5

You made it to Day 5 of the #EdTechTeacherChallenge and I bet you are thinking, "This is a piece of cake. So little tech involved. Which is great because I am so not tech savvy." Although today is another low tech day, it will be the last for awhile.

Today, I want you to think about why you are creating a Bitmoji Classroom. Are you just jumping on the craze bandwagon? Are you looking for a way to engage students in a virtual learning environment? Or are you looking for a way to extend and expand how you teach and your students learn that you can use in any type of learning environment?

If your goal is the former, I hope that as you continue through this challenge you will see all the possibilities that a virtual classroom can have. If you are the latter, then you are more progressive than a lot of other teachers right now and I hope you take this opportunity to help others along the way.

Just like design, Bitmoji classrooms can have a lot of purposes. Do you want it to be your main content driver? Do you want it to just be a bunch of links students can use to access the different platforms you use in your class? Do you want it to be a place for fun and creativity? Do you want it as a one stop shop for everything you would normally do in your classroom?

Just like your actual classroom, your virtual classroom should be used as a place for all of these. I understand that starting off, that might seem like an overwhelming undertaking. Over the next few days, we will breakdown putting your virtual classroom together piece by piece. Before you tackle the heavy lifting, though, understanding the purpose of your virtual classroom is essential.

The purpose of my virtual Bitmoji Classroom is content, collaboration and expression. I do want it to mimic a lot of what I do in my actual classroom, but I want it to be engaging and interactive. I want it to help foster an appreciation of the beauty of mathematics.

So, take a few moments to explain to YOURSELF why you are using a Bitmoji Classroom with your students. Share your thoughts and be sure to tag me @mrsmathmagician on social media and use the hashtag #EdTechTeacherChallenge. I look forward to seeing your ideas.

Peace, Love and Happiness Always!
